In the afternoon we had a stimulating seminar with my good friend Chris Tilling from St Paul’s and St Mellitus Theological College in London.
Chris helped us think through two essential questions: What is the Bible about, what is the story of scripture? And how do we read Scripture?
This was a thought provoking time as Chris presented Scripture using the metaphor of Drama splitting it into nine acts. We got through the entire narrative of scripture, old to new testaments in an hour!
This was really helpful in giving as an approach to the bible. Overall we learned about the covenant from Abraham through to the Prophets was about Israel being a ‘blessing’ to the world and how this was fulfilled in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Thus, the mission of the church is to confront evil and oppression, to be a blessing to all creation and work with God as the New Creation dawns. The message of Jesus is not ‘getting to heaven when you die’, but rather the dawning of new creation.
‘Your Kingdom come on Earth as it is in heaven‘
